Tax Preparation Proposal Template

A tax preparation proposal works best when it's specific about two things: which returns you'll prepare, and what the client has to send by when. This template prices a business return and its owners' returns three ways, from the business return alone to year-round planning, and sets out the dates that keep everyone off an extension.

Extensions

If your documents arrive after the dates above, we'll file extensions at no extra charge and complete the returns in order of when information arrives. An extension usually gives more time to file, not more time to pay, so we'll estimate any tax due by the original deadline.

What's Not Included

Responding to notices or examinations from a tax authority, amended returns, bookkeeping, payroll and sales tax returns, and returns in states not listed. We're happy to quote any of these separately.

Payment Terms

50% of the selected option is due on signing, and the balance when the returns are ready for your review. Invoices are due within 15 days. You can pay online by card or bank transfer.

Acceptance

Choose an option and sign below to accept this proposal. We'll send an engagement letter for your signature and a list of the documents we need.

Frequently asked questions

How do tax preparers price business returns?

Usually by return, set by the entity type and its complexity, with additional fees for each owner's schedule, other states, or extra forms. Quoting a fixed fee per return, with what would change it, gives the client a number to plan around.

Does filing an extension delay paying the tax?

In most places an extension gives more time to file, not more time to pay, so tax due is still owed by the original deadline. Check the rules where your client files.

Is this tax preparation proposal template free?

Yes. Read and copy the full text on this page, or edit it online and see it as your client will. When it's ready, start a free Clientary trial to send it or download it as a PDF.

Has a lawyer reviewed this template?

No. It's a general starting point written by Clientary, not legal advice, and it hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer for your situation or the laws where you and your client work. Have your own counsel review it before you use or sign it.
